Charlie Bales

Amid the 20,000 acres of Palmetto Bluff lie untold stories and treasures. For more than 30 years Charlie Bales has been uncovering both. From the Union Camp era to present day, Charlie has traversed the property almost daily managing the “wild world.” With a southern drawl and a twinkle in his eye, Charlie weaves stories of the Bluff like no other. A day spent with Charlie will reveal an adventure like you’ve never had before – whether birding, fishing, or discovering and exploring his favorite spots you will indeed walk away with a new appreciation for the land and those who have kept it pristine for centuries.

Charlie Bales is the Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife Manager for the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy.  The Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to natural resource protection and conservation at Palmetto Bluff. Charlie works in many areas from environmental planning and research; wildlife and land management; fisheries management; outreach and education. With over 30 years working on this amazing property, Charlie brings a wealth of passion, knowledge and expertise on everything associated with the land and its inhabitants, and he willingly works with new residents to acclimate them to this landscape.
